Ways We Train
overview
What are the different types of workouts within Rise
Rise has two general types of workouts: Small Group and Skills Labs.
What is a small group workout?
Small Group sessions are more customized and a little more advanced. They are capped at 6 players and use different equipment including weighted tennis balls, agility ladders, drill mats, and reaction lights to help players improve. Coaches also use iPads to film players during portions of workouts.
Small group sessions also have a move of the week. Players observe professional and college players doing the move, and then go through drills that help them master it.

What is a skills lab workout?
Skills Labs are larger group sessions that are cheaper and focus on getting players the basketball skill reps they need, in a short amount of time. This program is appropriate for players young and old, who are learning to play, or have already established their game.
Each session includes dribbling, finishing, shooting, and 1v1 drills in a fast-paced, high-intensity workout.
You can join a Skills Lab membership for as low as $79/mo. Free trials are available for the Skills Lab.

Do I have the option to do both?
You can also create a hybrid membership that includes small group and skills lab workouts to design the ultimate training experience. In this scenario, skills lab sessions are significantly discounted.

player testimonials
“Coach Marcus and his workouts helped develop my game tremendously. They helped get me ready for game time scenarios and made me more confident in my ability as a ball-handler and overall scorer. The main thing that stands out compared to other trainings is the intensity and the emphasis of going 100% every rep.”
- Brayden Kuykendall, California High School. Committed to Santa Clara University Division 1 College Basketball
“I’ve been training with coach Marcus my entire career, and for good reason too. Unlike other trainers he won’t just tell you what you want to hear but what you need to hear to get better. He’ll always push you to do the best you can.”
- Vince EllisM Clayton Valley Charter HS. Committed to Dominican University Division 2 College Basketball
"Training with Coach Marcus has really helped me grow into a more complete player. Before working with him, I struggled with my handle and confidence, especially going left. He pushed me to sharpen my fundamentals and play with purpose, and now I feel more confident, skilled, and consistent on the court. All his drills are pushed to be done at game speed. His workouts and coaching have played a big role in the player I’ve become"

parent testimonials
“My son Nate has been working with Coach Ellison for over four years, and Marcus has been far more than just a basketball trainer—he’s been a mentor and steady support system. His basketball knowledge is excellent, but what truly sets him apart is his supportive teaching style and genuine care for the kids he trains. Marcus helps Nate develop not only the physical aspects of his game but the mental side as well, and I’m grateful for the positive influence he’s had.”
- Adam Costa (Parent of San Ramon Valley HS Player)
“Our son has been training with Coach Marcus for a few years now. He stresses the importance of fundamentals and understanding the game, which has helped our son excel on both ends of the court. He transitioned to high school ball smoothly and with confidence and we attribute that to the many things he learned during his training sessions with Marcus.”
- Julie Thornton (Parent of Accalanes HS Player)
“Coach Marcus has a gift for connecting with players in a way that inspires trust, focus, and hard work. My son was consistently motivated to push himself and develop under Marcus’s guidance, both as a coach and a trainer. His influence has been meaningful and lasting.”
- Sarah Brooks (Parent of Bishop O’dowd HS Player)
